FlowGuide
Privacy Policy
Last updated: 5 October 2026
FlowGuide (“the extension”) is a browser extension made by ThinkFlow (“we”, “us”). This policy explains what information the extension handles, where it is kept and what control you have over it. In short: FlowGuide runs entirely in your browser. We do not collect, receive, store or sell any of your data. There is no account, no analytics and no tracking.
1. Information the extension handles
Recordings
FlowGuide only records between the moment you press Start recording (or the keyboard shortcut) and the moment you press Stop. While recording, the toolbar icon shows a red REC badge. During a recording the extension saves, for each step:
- a screenshot of the visible part of the tab you are using;
- the address (URL) and title of the page;
- details about the element you used, such as its visible label, type, position on the page and a CSS selector, so the step can be described, highlighted and replayed;
- what you typed into a field or chose from a list, so the step can say, for example, Type “Apollo” in the Project name field.
Passwords are never written into steps. Values in password fields, and in fields that look like card numbers, security codes, one-time codes or tokens, are left out of step titles and the field is blurred on the screenshot. If you turn on Hide typed text in Settings, no typed values are written into steps at all.
To work when you press record, the recorder script is loaded on web pages, but while recording is off it does not read, store or send anything.
Smart Blur
When Smart Blur is on, the extension looks for emails, API keys, access tokens and card numbers on the page at the moment of each step and pixelates them in the screenshot. This detection happens entirely on your device. Smart Blur is a helpful safety net, not a guarantee, so please review screenshots before you share a guide.
Settings
Your preferences (such as Smart Blur, Hide typed text and the optional AI provider, model and API key) are stored on your device.
What we don't collect
FlowGuide has no servers. It does not collect browsing history outside your recordings, does not use cookies, analytics, advertising or tracking of any kind, and does not create an account or any identifier for you.
2. Where your information is stored
Guides, screenshots and settings are stored in your browser's local extension storage (chrome.storage.local) on your computer. They are not uploaded to us or to anyone else, and they are not synced by your browser to other devices. Files you export (HTML, Markdown, PDF or JSON) are saved where you choose, and what happens to them after that is up to you.
3. Optional AI rewrite
AI rewrite is off by default. If you add your own OpenAI or Anthropic API key in Settings and press AI rewrite, the extension sends the following for each step being rewritten directly from your browser to the provider you chose:
- the type of action and the current step title (which may include text you typed, unless Hide typed text is on);
- the label and type of the element used;
- the page title and the page address without its query string or fragment;
- the title of the guide.
Screenshots are never sent. Your API key is stored on your device and sent only to that provider to authorise the request. These requests do not pass through us. The provider processes the data under its own terms and privacy policy: OpenAI or Anthropic.
4. Guide Me
When you start Guide Me, the extension opens the guide's first page and reads the saved guide from local storage to highlight each step on the page. Your progress is kept on your device. Nothing is sent anywhere.
5. Permissions and why we need them
- Storage and unlimited storage: to keep your guides and screenshots on your device. Screenshots can be larger than the browser's default storage limit.
- Access to websites: to take screenshots of the tab you are recording, to record on any site you choose, and to show the Guide Me overlay. It is only used while you are recording or using Guide Me.
- Scripting: to start the recorder in tabs that were already open when you installed the extension, and to show Guide Me.
- Side panel: to show the recording panel next to the page.
6. Sharing and sale of information
We do not sell, rent or share your information, and we do not use it for advertising or to determine creditworthiness. Apart from the AI provider you choose to use, no third party receives any data from the extension. The use of information by FlowGuide complies with the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
7. Your choices and control
- Edit and delete: delete any step or guide in the editor, or remove everything at once with Settings → Delete all guides.
- Turn features off: Smart Blur, Hide typed text, recording of page changes and AI rewrite can be changed at any time in Settings.
- Uninstall: removing the extension from your browser permanently deletes all guides, screenshots and settings it stored.
Because we never receive your data, we cannot view, recover or delete it for you. It is fully in your hands.
8. Security
Your data is protected by your browser and your computer's account security. Anyone with access to your browser profile could open your guides, so keep your device secure and review guides before sharing them, as screenshots can contain information from the pages you recorded.
9. Children
FlowGuide is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone.
10. Changes to this policy
If the extension changes how it handles information, we will update this page and the date at the top. Significant changes will also be described in the extension's release notes.
