Loupe

Privacy Policy

Last updated: 5 October 2026

Loupe (“the extension”) is a Chrome extension made by ThinkFlow (“we”, “us”). The short version: Loupe collects nothing, sends nothing and has no servers.

1. What Loupe stores

Loupe saves two things on your own computer, using Chrome's local storage:

  • the colour you last picked;
  • your twelve most recently picked colours.

That data never leaves your machine. It is not synced, uploaded, transmitted or shared with anyone, including us. Clearing your history in the extension, or removing the extension, deletes it.

2. What Loupe does not collect

  • No personal information, names, email addresses or account details
  • No browsing history, URLs or page contents
  • No analytics, telemetry, crash reports or usage statistics
  • No advertising or tracking identifiers, and no cookies

There is no account to create and nothing to log in to.

3. Screenshots used for sampling

To sample a pixel, Loupe asks Chrome for an image of the currently visible tab. That image is held in memory for the duration of a single pick, used only to read the colour value under your cursor, and discarded when the picker closes. It is never written to disk and never sent anywhere.

This only happens on a tab you have explicitly activated by clicking the Loupe toolbar button or pressing the keyboard shortcut. Loupe cannot read tabs you have not activated it on, and holds no standing permission to any website.

4. Permissions

  • activeTab: temporary access to the one tab you activate Loupe on, so it can be captured for sampling. It expires when you navigate away.
  • scripting: injects the magnifier overlay into that tab. It is removed when you pick or cancel.
  • storage: saves your last colour and recent history locally.

Loupe requests no host permissions, so it has no access to any site until you explicitly invoke it there.

5. Remote code

Loupe executes no remote code. All logic ships inside the extension package. There are no external scripts, no CDNs and no network requests of any kind.

6. Changes
